The Accuser’s house is bound, the Twelve are named, and family is no longer blood. That plunder is finished.
Jesus is in the synagogue on the Sabbath, then at the sea, then on the mountain, then in a packed house. He addresses a man who cannot stretch out his hand, scribes come down from Jerusalem, crowds from Galilee to Tyre, the Twelve he names, and his mother and brothers standing outside. The covenant moment is the Kingdom already at hand. These words matter then because the house that accuses him is the house that will not stand, and the family he names is the people who remain when that house falls.
1 He entered again into the synagogue, and there was a man there whose hand was withered. 2 They watched him, whether he would heal him on the Sabbath day, that they might accuse him. 3 He said to the man whose hand was withered, “Stand up.” 4 He said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath day to do good or to do harm? To save a life or to kill?” But they were silent. 5 When he had looked around at them with anger, being grieved at the hardening of their hearts, he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored as healthy as the other. 6 The Pharisees went out, and immediately conspired with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.
7 Jesus withdrew to the sea with his disciples; and a great multitude followed him from Galilee, from Judea, 8 from Jerusalem, from Idumaea, beyond the Jordan, and those from around Tyre and Sidon. A great multitude, hearing what great things he did, came to him. 9 He spoke to his disciples that a little boat should stay near him because of the crowd, so that they wouldn’t press on him. 10 For he had healed many, so that as many as had diseases pressed on him that they might touch him. 11 The unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, fell down before him and cried, “You are the Son of God!” 12 He sternly warned them that they should not make him known.
13 He went up into the mountain and called to himself those whom he wanted, and they went to him. 14 He appointed twelve, that they might be with him, and that he might send them out to preach 15 and to have authority to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons: 16 Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter); 17 James the son of Zebedee; and John, the brother of James, (whom he called Boanerges, which means, Sons of Thunder); 18 Andrew; Philip; Bartholomew; Matthew; Thomas; James, the son of Alphaeus; Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot; 19 and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. Then he came into a house. 20 The multitude came together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. 21 When his friends heard it, they went out to seize him; for they said, “He is insane.” 22 The scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, “He has Beelzebul,” and, “By the prince of the demons he casts out the demons.”
23 He summoned them and said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 If Satan has risen up against himself, and is divided, he can’t stand, but has an end. 27 But no one can enter into the house of the strong man to plunder unless he first binds the strong man; then he will plunder his house.
28 “Most certainly I tell you, all sins of the descendants of man will be forgiven, including their blasphemies with which they may blaspheme; 29 but whoever may blaspheme against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation.” 30 —because they said, “He has an unclean spirit.”
31 His mother and his brothers came, and standing outside, they sent to him, calling him. 32 A multitude was sitting around him, and they told him, “Behold, your mother, your brothers, and your sisters are outside looking for you.” 33 He answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” 34 Looking around at those who sat around him, he said, “Behold, my mother and my brothers! 35 For whoever does the will of God is my brother, my sister, and mother.”

The synagogue is the Sabbath world. A man stands there with a withered hand — Israel unable to serve, the limb the law required and the law could not restore. They watch to accuse. He asks whether the day is for life or for death. They are silent. He is angry and grieved at hardness. The hand stretches out. That stretching is a sign given in the ministry years. It is not the end of the age. It is the pledge that the people locked in Sabbath-accusation will be given back their work in the Son. The Pharisees leave and join the Herodians. Religion and the palace agree on one thing: destroy him. That plot runs to the cross. The house that made the plot does not outlive the generation that made it.
Crowds come from Galilee, Judea, Jerusalem, Idumaea, beyond the Jordan, Tyre and Sidon. The old boundary-system is already leaking. Afflicted people press to touch him. The cry that falls in front of him uses the speech of that hour: You are the Son of God. That cry is not a second court of spirits with its own throne. It is curse-exile naming the one who ends it, the way a fever and a sea take a rebuke from the same mouth. He silences the publicity. The work is the binding, not the headline. Zechariah said the unclean spirit would be cut off from the land. This press of bodies is that cutting-off begun. The land is clean when the sanctuary that guarded uncleanness is gone.
He goes up the mountain and calls whom he wants. He appoints twelve to be with him, to preach, to heal, to drive out the curse in the speech of their hour. Twelve is Israel’s number. This is not a later church invented after a delay. This is the people of the coming age named while Moses’ house still stands. Judas is in the list. The remnant includes a traitor. The appointment is still the pledge of a restored Israel that will not be counted by genealogy when the wall comes down.
Friends say he is insane. Scribes from Jerusalem say he has Beelzebul — that he drives out the curse by the prince of the curse. They put the Spirit’s work on the Accuser’s books. He answers in their terms. A kingdom divided cannot stand. A house divided cannot stand. If Satan has risen against himself he has an end. Satan here is the Accuser: the condemnation-system, the case the law keeps, the house that holds the goods. There is no war of gods. There is one Lord. The Accuser’s house is the old administration. It cannot stand because its end has been announced in this generation.
No one plunders the strong man’s house until the strong man is bound. The binding is this ministry: the hand restored, the crowds gathered, the Twelve sent, the curse answered in the idiom of the street. The plunder is the taking of the goods — a people pulled out of accusation into the Son. That taking is finished when the house itself falls, the priesthood ends, and Hades no longer holds the covenant dead. Mark 5 is the next public act of that plunder. AD 70 is the emptying of the house.
All blasphemies can be forgiven. The line they will not cross back over is this: calling the Spirit’s work unclean. They said he has an unclean spirit. That verdict is the generation’s verdict on the presence that came to save them. The condemnation tied to that verdict is the condemnation of the age that ends when the house ends. It is not a private afterlife tariff parked beyond history. It is the standing loss of the people who named the Spirit’s work as curse and would not turn.
Mother and brothers stand outside and call. The multitude sits around him. He will not let blood define the household. Whoever does the will of God is brother, sister, mother. Genealogy was the old covenant’s first credential. That credential ends with that age. The one new man is already sitting in the room. When the Temple falls, this is the family that is left: not those who can prove a line, but those gathered to the Son. Ended with that age: Sabbath as a trap for accusation, the Accuser’s house as the last word over Israel, kinship as the door into God. Given in their place: a stretched-out people, a bound Accuser, a named Twelve, a household of the will of God, New Creation life in the presence the old house only guarded and never was.

The Accuser’s house is not standing over you. The case the law kept is closed. Family is the will of God, not a line you must prove. You live in the plunder already taken: clean, named, seated with those who sat around him in the house. Identity is union. Freedom is the end of condemnation.
Where are you still standing outside with the old credentials, when the household that remains is already in the room?
