How to Read Romans (Fulfilled / New Creation Lens)
Romans is Paul’s covenant-level explanation of what Christ has accomplished. It is not written to produce fear about distant futures. It is written to end condemnation, settle identity, and unify Jew and Gentile in one new humanity.
1) Romans is Covenant Diagnosis + Covenant Cure
Paul is addressing a real first-century tension: Torah identity, national privilege, Gentile inclusion, and the question of what defines God’s people now that Messiah has come.
If you read Romans as abstract moral philosophy, you will miss the point. Paul is explaining the transfer from Adamic condemnation and Law-based boundary markers into Spirit-based life in Christ.
2) Key Terms Are Covenant Terms
Law — covenant administration and boundary markers
Sin — covenant power tied to condemnation, not just bad habits
Justification — covenant status declared right in Christ
Wrath — covenant consequence/judgment within that age
Life — Spirit life as New Creation participation
