Philemon is the shortest and most personal letter in the New Testament, yet it carries the full weight of the New Covenant. In a single household situation Paul demonstrates what the finished work of Christ has already accomplished: the old categories of slave and free are dissolved. Onesimus returns not as property but as a beloved brother.
This is not a private favour. It is the New Creation identity applied to real relationships inside the transition generation.
