Paul writes to Timothy, left in Ephesus, to charge certain men not to teach a different doctrine or pay attention to myths and endless genealogies. The letter sets out the qualifications for overseers and servants, the conduct of the household of God, and the charge to guard the deposit against those who turn away to fables and the love of money.
The goal of the command is love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith. The mystery of godliness is great: God was revealed in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, and received up in glory.
