Zechariah 9:11 declares: "Because of the blood of your covenant, I have set free your prisoners from the pit in which is no water." This "pit" represents the spiritual bondage and death inherent in the Old Covenant system, which revealed sin but could not remove it.
At the Last Supper, Jesus explicitly identified His upcoming death as "the blood of the new covenant" (Matthew 26:28). The writer of Hebrews calls this the "eternal covenant" (Hebrews 13:20). By His blood, Jesus didn't just provide a temporary reprieve; He accomplished eternal redemption, setting the prisoners of hope free from the condemnation of the Law once and for all.
