The Mystery Revealed • The End of the Dividing Wall • New Creation Unity
A widespread theological system today (Dispensationalism) teaches that God's ultimate plan is for a physical, geopolitical nation of Israel. According to this framework, when first-century Israel rejected Jesus as the Messiah, God "paused" His prophetic clock. We are supposedly living in a giant "parenthesis" called the Church Age—a temporary "Plan B" where Gentiles are saved until God finally raptures the Church and gets back to His primary, physical Jewish program in a future millennium.
This theology severely diminishes the glory of the New Covenant. The biblical narrative reveals that the inclusion of the Gentile nations into one, unified family of God was never a backup plan. It was the primary, prophesied goal from the very beginning. The Church is not a parenthesis; it is the breathtaking climax of the biblical story.
The scope of God's redemptive plan was established in Genesis 12. When God called Abram out of Ur, He made a multi-layered covenant with him. The ultimate capstone of that promise was this:
"In you, all of the families of the earth will be blessed." (Genesis 12:3)
God formed the nation of Israel to serve as a priestly conduit to eventually reach the entire world. The Old Covenant Law acted as a protective boundary to keep Israel distinct until the promised Seed (Christ) arrived. But the boundary was never meant to be permanent. The goal was always global.
Throughout the Old Testament, the prophets repeatedly looked past the strict ethnic divisions of the Mosaic Law to a coming era of radical inclusion.
In Amos 9:11-12, God promised to rebuild the "fallen tent of David." Centuries later, in Acts 15, the early church leaders debated whether Gentiles had to become Jews (via circumcision) to be saved. James quoted Amos 9 to prove that the inclusion of the Gentiles was the fulfillment of the rebuilding of David's kingdom. God's house was being rebuilt precisely so "that the rest of mankind may seek after the Lord."
The Apostle Paul uses a specific word to describe this ingathering: a mystery. In biblical terms, a mystery is not a puzzle to be solved; it is a divine truth that was previously concealed but has now been triumphantly revealed.
"This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, and fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of his promise in Christ Jesus through the Good News." (Ephesians 3:6)
Paul emphatically states that God did not create two separate tracks of salvation—one for physical Israel and one for the Gentile Church. Instead, Christ took two hostile groups and "created in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace" (Ephesians 2:15).
Under the Old Covenant, the physical Jewish Temple featured a literal stone barrier called the Soreg. It separated the Court of the Gentiles from the inner sanctuary. Signs were posted warning any Gentile who crossed the wall that they would be responsible for their own ensuing death. This wall was the ultimate symbol of the Old Covenant's ethnic exclusivity.
At the cross, Jesus legally "broke down the middle wall of partition" (Ephesians 2:14). The spiritual barrier was destroyed. However, the physical temple and its exclusionary system continued to operate for forty more years, bitterly persecuting the unified, multi-ethnic New Covenant Church.
In AD 70, the Roman armies completely destroyed the physical Temple in Jerusalem. God historically and permanently removed the geographical, genealogical, and architectural barriers of the Old Covenant. The physical shadows were obliterated so the spiritual reality of the global Kingdom could stand without rival.
To understand the glory of the New Covenant, we must clear away harmful theological misconceptions.
You are not part of a backup plan. The global ingathering of the nations is the brilliant, planned culmination of the promise made to Abraham thousands of years ago. The dividing wall is gone. The physical temple has been replaced by the indwelling Spirit in the hearts of believers worldwide.
In the New Jerusalem (Revelation 22), the gates are never shut, and the leaves of the tree of life are "for the healing of the nations." You are reading covenant history for assurance, not headlines for doom. You belong to the single, massive, multi-ethnic family of God, standing on equal ground at the feast on Mount Zion.
